Mel Odom, 16 Aralık 1957'de California'da doğdu. Şimdiye kadar 140 kitabı yayınlandı. Yazdığı bilimkurgu ve fantastik kitaplar ile tanınmaktadır. Ayrıca bilgisayar oyunları için kurgular yazmışlığı vardır. East Central Üniversitesinden 1980 yılında mezun olmuştur, Ocak 2006'dan bu yana Oklahoma Üniversitesi'nde eğitim üyesi olarak çalışmaktadır.
